The Third International Event of the WASTE project took place from November 9th to November 14th in
Birgu (Malta).
The main topic of the event was “Circular Economy and waste management”.
Short description of implemented activities:
DAY 1:
Arrival and accomodation of international delegations.
Registration of participants.
Welcome speech by the Mayor of Birgu, Mr. John Boxall.
Welcome dinner.
DAY 2:
Introduction to the Third International Event workshops “Circular Economy and waste management”
Presentation of the “Circular economy action plan” and EU actions for sustainability.
Visit to to the WASTESERV waste management plant in Magħtab
DAY 3:
Presentation of circular economy practices by the participating delegations.
Guided tour of La Valletta.
Gala dinner for the 30th anniversary of Maltese Local Councils.
DAY 4:
Sharing of community thoughts about circual economy. Gathering of citizens points of view.
Visit to Ħaġar Qim and Mjandra Temples.
Visit to Mosta WWII Shelters.
Integrational activities.
Day 5:
Operational meeting for the fourth International Event.
Debates and problem solving activities. Truth and lies game about waste management.
Farewell dinner and gift exchanges.
DAY 6:
Greetings ceremony and departure of delegations.
The implementation of the event led to the following achievements:
- Sensibilization about the topic of Circular Economy;
- Promotion of EU actions and policies for Circular Economy, waste management and sustainability;
- Sharing of the best practices of the participating communities;
- Direct visit and experience in the waste management system of the Island of Malta;
- Active debate on circular economy, gathering of opinions and points of view from the involved
communities;
- Intercultural dialogue, mutual comprehension, and creation of cooperation among partner
organizations;
- Visibility and dissemination of the project and EU funding, through the participation to the ceremony
for the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Maltese Local Councils.
